Ready smart questions from @cwarzel: What if all those new ways for people to make a living online...don't work for all but the 1%? Are we all on a big hamster wheel in the name of EMPOWERING CREATORS? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/24/opinion/what-are-nfts.html …pic.twitter.com/2r1qxVpSB1

Interesting questions raised, yet people spending most of what they make is not new phenomenon even among creators. Many people in highly paid professions can't afford an unexpected medical bill or unforeseen event. If they make more, they'll upgrade their lifestyle equivalently.

Basically, if you can't budget to take a few weeks of from creating viral content for your lifestyle / financial situation, then you're likely living above your means. (Similarly so for Wall St traders who get let go suddenly after a bad year... but have high ongoing costs.)

Agree w/ you -- wasn't clear from second tweet, but my pt is that top creators being on a hamster wheel and not being able to afford unexpected healthcare for instance... is no different than many others in 🇺🇸. So it's not unique to social influencers, like article insinuates.

Separately, I do think that lifestyle creep does affect people's ability to weather unforeseen events from lack of insurance/savings. Wasn't main point with regards to influencers being uniquely susceptible for having to work all of the time to stay afloat financially.
