“per” means “divided by” your details are probably right but you are using units incorrectly in a way that’s very confusing to follow

Omg all of this is hard to follow already Emily I blame nerds being finicky about labels and not just using clear language to explain what’s happening

Think of watts like horse power 150 horse power per hour doesn’t make any sense, since “hp means power output right now” But 150 horse powers for an hour makes sense, and that is a way of measuring energy Now substitute watts for hp and that’s how that works

Ampere is the same, incidentally, as is volt They all measure some kind of flow, which multiplied with a time gives you an amount

volt isn’t! volt is energy per charge and amps is charge per time

I like the water analogy for explaining electricity: When water flows through a tube (electricity through a cable), voltage is like the water speed (how much energy does each electron/drop of water carry?), and amperage is the amount of water/electrons flowing.

No this is bad I hate this explanation It’s still WAY too unnecessarily technical and doesn’t work when you don’t already think like an engineer

The version I was taught in 7th grade was a bit different: Imagine two lakes, one higher then the other, connected by a river. The difference in height between the lakes is the voltage, and how much water the river can carry.

watts are a rate of energy flow, like liters / second. watt hours are a unit of energy, like liters. if you have 1000 watts over an hour, you accumulate 1000 watt hours
