There is nothing environmentally friendly about crypto currencies. It is the only coal-burning "currency" on the planet.

Let's see. Bitcoin about 74TWh of electricity last year. The entire banking industry 1242 TWh. If you want to label anything coal-burning you should be pointing your finger at nasdaq and dow jones and bank of america and every other for profit bank on the planet.

Define "scale out". At low enough miner price, and liquid-coold miners (reducing 80% of mining energy versus air-cooled (not to mention the value of the recovered heating)) a solar-powered and low wholesale Elec price if grid powered (typically overnight wind energy) it "scales"

Especially if you operate it about 20-22 hours/day and avoid peak You could even design it to be a heater in the winter

compare volume in $ and # of financial transaction to that over bitcoin?

That's not the point. All banks can reduce their real estate footprint by 50% and increase volume of transactions and save more energy than bitcoin takes. Not to mention bitcoin miners will have to reduce their energy by half at every reduction in mining reward

Did bitcoin miners reduce their energy usage by half at the last halving? 😂

Hash rate isn't a perfect measure of energy efficiency. My graphics card in 2012 was 10% the efficiency of today's cards. And today's cards are more efficient than even 2 years ago. And water-cooled processors perform better for less Wh per hash rate
