annoyed by all the epidemiologists saying covid is endemic now, when they weren't sounding the alarm that this would be the result of lack policies back then. you all should know who you are
still the main factor on how bad this is is the envelope of disease that can evolve

Most really did sound the alarm, though. And they were mostly ignored in the English-speaking world anyway.

I feel like I can count on one hand the number of epidemiologists that really made it a public platform that if we don't reach covid zero, it will establish reservoirs in the population which can mutate more transmissible / severe variants, or immune escape.

That's interesting. I'd love to go back and watch the narrative change. There was a big period of time though where the essential message was, "get this under control now, or you break healthcare" And we certainly have seen the consequences of that failure

abridged list of off-white lies: - masks don't work / save masks for front line - no evidence it's human to human - no evidence it's airborne - 'flatten the curve' - doesn't mutate much - mutations less severe - temp checks at borders work - rapid tests work early in infection

Yeah, so a few of those were expedient (the mask thing) and a few were clearly wrong (tho most of the mutation lying was done by people like our elected officials) We failed to use temp checks and rapid tests with enough intensity, I believe. We mis-sold flatten the curve badly

Temp check are almost a complete fail and rapid tests need to be used with a quarantine or masks or like, really small groups or outdoors. There's an entire window where the disease is emerging where they miss

Temp checks catch ~20-40% of infected people. Had we done that in more places, might have truly bent the curve. Asia and hospitals seem to agree. Rapid tests to let people gather? Yeah, dumb. Rapid tests to try to get a similar %age of people to isolate? En masse would've helped

if you've got temp checks for flights it's like plowing the sea honestly, it's not near enough to have en effect at travel. if *might* be successful in reducing local spread somewhat if done everywhere, or catching disease earlier
