Maybe the biggest downside of “building in public” is that it makes failure expensive. It’s much easier to experiment when no one is looking, and when you don’t have to explain why your crazy ideas failed.

more pressure to continue in a particular direction. interesting that some great works came of skunkworks, where the existence of the project was limited to tiny regions of the company. apple did this under jobs a lot.
