it seems to me the long form blogs from the lesswrong/rationalist crowd are slightly ahead (by a couple weeks) of twitter in assessing the actual scale or the calamity posed by the new variants and sluggish vaccine roll out, maybe because twitter was distracted by politics & 1/6

@Trinitydraco1@djbaskin @WearAtoms I know you guys are working on masks, what about mask sleeves for the better quality masks.@DrEricDing points out that the fact by which the KN95 masks (for example) are better is a way better weapon against the new Covid variants. -
I am not sure what you mean by mask sleeves, I assume you mean some kind of additional filter, but this is definitely a nuanced discussion which Twitter lends itself to poorly. I am also not familiar with Dr. Ding so forgive me.

A silikon sleeve that fits over the edges of the now probably most common KN95 type would be nice. I've dabbled with that since last spring but it's difficult to cast. N99/N100 commonly have gaskets made from TPE/Silicone or some kind of foam(if non-reusable).

I don't double mask, however. I have good, certified masks that fit and filter well. They're really easy to get now, and cheap, too.
