it seems to me the long form blogs from the lesswrong/rationalist crowd are slightly ahead (by a couple weeks) of twitter in assessing the actual scale or the calamity posed by the new variants and sluggish vaccine roll out, maybe because twitter was distracted by politics & 1/6

Personally, i am tired to be the alarmist and the messager of bad news. Even if i noticed alarming data weeks ago. I first wanted to avoid the issue and leave it to professional epidemiologists & leaders. I only now start to tweet on it, because leaders are failing us, again.

On Jan. 7th i did DM the French representative i have contact with. She knows i was a pionneer COVID19 messenger in Feb. 2020, may since put some credibility on my nerdy alarms. There is no shortage of information. There is clear shortage of courage: 1. to tell boss 2. to actpic.twitter.com/JOpQIQKSUh

@DrEricDing is faithfully sounding the alarm, and he’s not being dismissed as readily, just overmuch ignored!1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

Jan 7th dm alarm to my French representative, i asked: - immediate lockdown, 4 weeks - use current 'slow' Wuhan variant - to lower cases to traceable level - get fighting chance vs B117 - reduce ld cost Human social status mechanism
Representative wished me an happy new year.pic.twitter.com/v7TvMmVr0z

Human power dynamic do not allow low-status
#DISRUPTIVE data messengers to shake higher-status leaders. Leaders must be both data-litterate, data eager, AND courageous to bring new DISRUPTIVE knowledge to their own boss. ANY boss in the leadership chain fail, The country fails.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

idk what the problem is. i really hope Biden shows he can be a different kind of leader, but it's asking a lot. in times of crisis people go back to their training -- usually. not if he's a live player.

you know
@snigdhar0y told me she worked on Biden's campaign a year ago and she knew he'd win, back then. I dismissed her (very unfairly), she saw something up close that bodes well for his internal strength2 replies 0 retweets 1 like
but i think the issue is that people haven't worked out how to be radically honest about what they are doing in this age of media. it is like the addition of tv and twitter to the office consciousness means people can't be honest about states of uncertainty, esp. around bad news
