Any good sources for functionalizing water ice at low temperature? Normal ice composites like pycrete are awesome https://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/space-robots/robots-made-of-ice-could-build-and-repair-themselves-on-other-planets … , but it is also possible to get electret, pyroelectric and possibly superconductive high-pressure ice. What else can it do non-structurally?

Yes, that is a downside. Although in really cold environments the rate is low (still, likely makes nanostructured ice surfaces no-go, unless they can be protected).
