i can't believe people are still doing in person halloween "trick or covid" at this point I have one main costume option left: curmudgeon
the collective goal should be eradication, and to do that we need to drive Rt below 1. it might be that despite this, the tradeoffs against elementary education are too great & we still want to do it, but it complicates contact tracing and increases spread. & imo school sucks

I think we are essentially in 100% agreement. I'm just saying that I doubt there would be much if any increase in transmission as a result of trick-or-treating. However, I think it might be the case that canceling that reduces house parties, in which case, yes, better to cancel.

my argument is it: a) allows the virus to jump gaps that otherwise it wouldn't b) substantially complicates contact tracing c) creates a false sense of security d) this whole pandemic started with a single infection in abs numbers it might be low, but risk/reward is low too
