It seems like the consensus on P100s to the extent that anyone thinks about them is something like 'yeah they probably reduce covid risk ~100x, but idk, so moving on' and I'm confused about why there isn't more interest in finding out/wearing them/etchttps://worldspiritsockpuppet.com/2020/10/23/P100-mystery.html …

I have a P100 mask but many places ban them, forcing me to use a far less effective cloth mask. The idea is that if you’re contagious, the vents won’t catch droplets. Then you risk infecting others who wear cloth masks.

As the post linked in the first bullet says, you can (should!) cover the outflow valve with a surgical mask.

Why not just wear a P95, which doesn't have that problem, and is at least somewhat easier to fit?

Do you mean disposable or non-disposable? Disposable P95s look just as hard to fit as N95s.

really? in my honest experience, non-disposable respirators are totally trivial to fit and totally trivial to fit-test (just cover the outflow valve with your hand and blow out, see if it puffs out; there's just one point to cover, not a whole surface)
