The evidence that the tradeoff of having a run on masks / hoarding in the US at the beginning of the pandemic, having PPE shortages for healthcare staff was beneficial wasn't all that clear. They advised masks the 3rd of April. 15 days after it started in the US for god's sake.

Most of the more revealing studies are on the systemic benefit and they're pretty recent. There were many previous studies on the benefit in healthcare settings, also why they weren't recommended for gp at the very beginning. People need to stop seeing conspiracy everywhere...
