@DanielleFong anything top of mind that led you to reading HBL?
yeah i was thinking of the importance of a space where you can do creative stuff without disturbing who you’re living with
The joy was having an entire space with nothing but one project in it.
My old boss, designer Gordon Ashby, used to say: “Nirvana is: One Project At A Time.”
Something I've been struggling with lately is determining WHICH project to focus on
@stewartbrand do you have any methods/learnings/perspectives on this?
I once gave myself an imaginary MacArthur grant so I could quit a project I no longer wanted to do (I returned a book advance) and could move ahead on a project I really wanted to do (which became HOW BUILDINGS LEARN).
(Meaning: there was no money. I just pretended there was and acted accordingly.)
Dan Brown made an entire fake book of the Da Vinci Code (physical copy, w/ cover art), claimed it helped motivate & envision the completed work. He shows the relic in his MasterClass on writing. Reminds me of Feynman’s “imagine what the solution would look like” advice, too.
Yeah, I have a cover for the book I'm working on. It pulls me forward. 1.7 years of research so far; nothing written yet.pic.twitter.com/xpSmpfJQOF
