Sweden was (a) not as economically central / close to Italy as many of the others, and had good success on their other interventions, ending school, encouraging work from home, stopping public gatherings, contact tracing. combined with good orderliness & the sun, it wasn't awful
Sweden's mortality was counter to the trend, and in neighboring, similar countries its performance was worse. But a linear look at the deaths of the outcoming of an ongoing pandemic which we have yet to control globally is pretty much always the wrong way to look it. Fat tails.
Sweden's methods can't work in any location where contact tracing is too difficult because testing is outstripped / tracing capacity is out of hand, or compliance is low, it can't work in a place with a poor social safety net, where people are forced to work in order to survive
