watching the sf community hate on jason calcanis for wanting to set up a homeschool buble (he’s even offering 100% scholarships to students based on merit) is something else if you don’t like the solution propose yours, “the revolution is coming for you” takes are creepy & lazy

Ya Jason is clearly right on this. People will hate anything rich people do that’s not public education.

It doesn't though. Jason will pay the same amount of taxes regardless of whether his kids are in public schools or not. So if he puts his kids in a private school and pays taxes there's *more* $/student in the public school system

Actually had a convo about this with a friend this weekend. It’s not that simple. Paid taxes are the same, distribution is MUCH different. Student enrollment number effects funding. So a community with a larger home school base gets less funding because the “need” isn’t there.

...in which case, it's merely scaled to the per capita public school population. it depends on jurisdiction, last i checked

Unfortunately there have been numerous policies put in place over over the last few decades that undermine this. Many large urban districts offer “school choice”, so more $$ goes to where the kids choose to go. Thus leaves neighborhood schools struggling...

So if you can’t get into a school of your “choice” you will go to an underfunded school. These schools are trying to attract more students and “improve” (ie Test scores/graduate rates) with fewer resources than the schools they are now competing against.
