the best part of this conversation is that they don't want to hire just anyone to teach their kids - they want to hire good public school teachers away from the public school system

I mean, good? I want all of the public school teachers to get high paying jobs outside of public schools because I don't want them to die. I also want public schools to be better funded. You can want multiple things.
