watching the sf community hate on jason calcanis for wanting to set up a homeschool buble (he’s even offering 100% scholarships to students based on merit) is something else if you don’t like the solution propose yours, “the revolution is coming for you” takes are creepy & lazy

Replying to @DanielleFong @Jason
The proposal should be “let’s use our power as wealthy members of the community to help ensure every child has access to a safe public school system,” even if that’s done I conjunction with helping his own kid. I’d love to see the Silicon Valley elite focus on public good.

they’re not saying don’t pay taxes, in fact in this system they pay more taces. what they are exercising is freedom

danielle, no one is suggesting restricting their freedom. but if everyone with wealth followed this model, it would drain our school systems of valuable teachers, and it would further separate public school attendees from private school attendees. we can do better.

specifically not! jason’s getting ostracized and like having people saying shit like “oh the people who are not going to survive the revolution are in public now” shit like this for the temerity to homeschool kids in a pandemic

It’s not the home schooling that’s an issue — it’s the focus on pulling good teachers out of the school system to the detriment of every other child, and the lack of focus on the system that exists already. There’s nothing wrong with home schooling and hiring a tutor.

There are thousands and thousands of great teachers that aren't in the public school system. Pull them out of the private school system ;)

why does public school deserve a monopoly on teaching k-12? people are in denial of how bad it is and the government isn’t succeeding at all with a plan to keep the kids and their family’s safe and it should be rewarded with a new monopoly? no...
