On an enotional level, I am sorry to hear of your pain. I agree that being half serious is good. It lets you be funny, and I think humor is good and fun and often necessary. Being half-serious does mean you do need to be comfortable owning up to that "half" bit through.

Part of humor's power is that the speaker expresses or contextualizes a truth the that is unintuitive or painful. I'm grateful for this. So many things would be too hard to say without it. There's no stripping it of that bit of truth though. Sometimes that makes things rough.
