2/ But what are good sources of info? Best studies. Obviously if there was a mask with near n95 protection and was breathable manufacturing these at scale wld pay huge dividends. So is there progress on this and is there good guidance on the best that is available now?

There’s also studies that surgical can be equal or even superior to N95 depending on particle size ranges, while N95 superior in other particle ranges.

huh, that would be a pretty big deal if true since they’re fairly easy to purchase now

I’ll find you the aerosol particle mask studies. They compared to cloth too. It really is a matter of particle size. Microdroplet aerosol transmission becoming a bigger issue. And the environmental engineers who been studying aerosols have been doing it longer than vir folks.

so does that mean the relatively larger droplets are the issue?

There are 3 types of recognized transmission. Fomite (surface contact), larger droplet (aka ballistic saliva pulled down by gravity within 6 feet usually), and microdroplet aerosols (airborne 20 min to 4 hours typically, but up 16 hours with stagnant air). https://twitter.com/drericding/status/1280330714521702411?lang=en …https://twitter.com/DrEricDing/status/1280330714521702411 …

Microdroplets are concerning when you watch this video under special light. All the more reason for masks. #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/XX32OkyMuy

it seems that the 'plosives' (b and p) emit the most droplets - wouldn't it be easier simply to ban those consonant noises rather than to infringe with an onerous mask requirement?
