I have a workshop on "How to be a Superhero", which is really a hip name for how to become enlightened, and my first guideline was: Don't be afraid to look ridiculous. In other words, taking oneself seriously is one of the top things that prohibits us from enlightenment.

Which, when you think about it, is another way to say that freedom of speech is crucial for getting us to enlightenment. Right speech is expressing ourselves honestly — our greatest loves, losses, dreams, and needs — in whatever way that means to us at the time.
