Normal particle filters are probably adequate, it's just that you don't get good air flow in almost all rooms to properly exchange air. With AC you mostly care for temp and humidity, not about cleaning the air -- a much harder problem.

This is solved in cleanrooms with immense costs. One thing I could see having an effect in some environments is fan filter units mounted at the ceiling, blowing clean air down on people, so any virus particles would be pushed towards the floor/flow up the walls to the filters.

Or maybe something like placing a device near the filter that would generate radiation killing (or rather deactivating) viruses. (just a thought)
