Just skimmed through the paper and it certainly looks interesting, but I'd be concerned about ozone/NOx generation by those high energy photons

*according to this* 253.7nm UV-C lamps do not produce Ozone and in fact destroy ozone.

The nature paper is for 222nm light though, which is more energetic than the homolytic bond dissociation energy of diatomic oxygen (I calculate 240nm.) From that I'd expect 222nm light to be ozone/NOx producing, but I may be missing other factors

even though it's more energetic, I think that the 253.7nm could still cook the virus?

Yeah it should, but considering most infections are from close proximity to an infected person, I don't see UV lamps as a great way to mitigate that risk. IIRC SARS-CoV-2 doesn't stay infectious very long in the air. That's not to say UV lamps are useless here though

hm! that is not my understanding. my understanding is that the virus lasts for many days, can be deactivated by UV / sunlight. but that infections via indoors / AC environments is spiking, and that it's about the amount of time you spend in a space with a lot of viral load.

Personally, I'll take the preventive measure of "extreme social isolation" for the time being

I agree with styro, UV-C will cause lots of oxyradicals to be made. However there is some promising research around using UV-B for sterilization. My suggestion though is that high volume air movement (box fan) in addition to UV-B light is what would be most effective for SARS-2.

you’re saying nox etc not o3 right? this website claims it destroys o3. uv-b could work. https://twitter.com/daniellefong/status/1277987922436907009?s=21 …https://twitter.com/DanielleFong/status/1277987922436907009 …
