The single biggest problem on the internet is the signal to noise ratio. In general, people are extraordinarily bad at determining who is a good authority on X subject. See also, Dunning Kruger.

Confirmation bias and the Dunning Kruger effect combine to produce that terrible signal to noise ratio: people share what they 1) don't know about 2) believe in already.
