when you start actually looking into the alternatives a lot of them are just optimistic memes solar energy via panels produce lot of toxic waste wind energy is geo-based (literally need wind) and noise pollution geothermal/hydro are good but too geo-specific

these are extremely overblown by the way. The amount of toxic waste from solar panels is low and it’s getting lower & is vastly lower than the amount associated with for example coal for example shale oil, for example tar sands oil. Wind is location dependent but noise can be low

we have a small wind farm here in Nova Scotia with big 2.5 MW turbines that have a 45 m radius. The sound around it is kind of a light wooshing. even right below it. it’s not really a problem. it’s pleasant actually. Not disruptive

hydro can be very cost-effective and very useful and it can also be related to managing floodwaters. but can also damage ecosystems

actually somehow bringing down the cost of nuclear by A combination of good design design reuse learning curves and more efficient regulation construction and financing could be a path forward. but it is facing massive headwinds from fossil fuel’s and also from solar and wind

main problem with nuclear is that it suffers from the image problem muh Chernobyl or Three Mile Island is the first thing that comes to most people's minds when you mention Nuclear Energy

The main problem is it’s ridiculously expensive because we never settled on a design and it got much more expensive to construct things generally and it got much more expensive to finance & it took longer and there’s more regulations. now it’s like $.20 a kilowatt hour or smthing

Trueeee I'm betting on Trump setting up a US Nuclear (Uranium) Reserve and more Nuclear Energy Initiatives if he rolls out his second term. Should goal-orient the nation towards Nuclear Energy dominance. https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/building-uranium-reserve-first-step-preserving-us-nuclear-fuel-cycle …

Sorry but when microreactors come out they are gonna BTFO most alt-energy solutions if not ALL https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/what-nuclear-microreactor …

used to advise a company in the area. advised Sam Altman to look into it back in 2010, they funded upower. it’s a real opportunity but it’s gonna be really hard to beat solar in Sunny locations, but there are applications that could be very useful
