good intro read into a very srs issue personally against carbon taxes cause a lot more problems rooted in reality than in theory see: https://twitter.com/adamscrabble/status/1193246877443141638 … Future of "green energy" is nuclear energy once they fix their image problem

Nuclear happens to be both the cleanest and most efficient fuel source. When the public starts getting access to microreactors a lot of energy problems gonna be solved https://twitter.com/GovNuclear/status/1276523391277838336?s=20 … https://www.energy.gov/ne/articles/nuclear-power-most-reliable-energy-source-and-its-not-even-close …

I spoke at the New Nuclear Capital 2019 Summit on the value of advanced reactors for climate & energy security. Small nuclear reactors & microreactors can produce reliable electricity w/ zero emissions at a size appropriate for the grid, solving energy access & climate concerns. pic.twitter.com/NKxSVDqaCe

when you start actually looking into the alternatives a lot of them are just optimistic memes solar energy via panels produce lot of toxic waste wind energy is geo-based (literally need wind) and noise pollution geothermal/hydro are good but too geo-specific

these are extremely overblown by the way. The amount of toxic waste from solar panels is low and it’s getting lower & is vastly lower than the amount associated with for example coal for example shale oil, for example tar sands oil. Wind is location dependent but noise can be low

we have a small wind farm here in Nova Scotia with big 2.5 MW turbines that have a 45 m radius. The sound around it is kind of a light wooshing. even right below it. it’s not really a problem. it’s pleasant actually. Not disruptive

hydro can be very cost-effective and very useful and it can also be related to managing floodwaters. but can also damage ecosystems

I like hydro most next to nuclear, but still geo-dependent, you can't prop those up in a desert

actually somehow bringing down the cost of nuclear by A combination of good design design reuse learning curves and more efficient regulation construction and financing could be a path forward. but it is facing massive headwinds from fossil fuel’s and also from solar and wind

main problem with nuclear is that it suffers from the image problem muh Chernobyl or Three Mile Island is the first thing that comes to most people's minds when you mention Nuclear Energy
