I'm pretty annoyed that someone would use their political clout to systematically deny the reality of an entire class of people, call them insane, GO INSANE, and then people are still citing him as an authority on the subject.

How is it "systematically deny the reality of an entire class of people"? Do you think the law should compel people to use their preferred pronouns? Did JBP call them insane hmm
I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with that1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

oh is he the "being trans is a mental illness" guy? i was solidly on that bandwagon for awhile and it's actually a great way to get out of the conservative "just suck it up you cant change ur gender" camp--

if someome thinks of being born sex A but feeling like gender B as a mental illness, then transitioning is the only viable treatment, which means trans people arent making a "weird gross lifestyle choice," they deserve empathy imo a big improvement, and from there--

they may be more open to expanding their views on the topi (source: was a conservative, had my "being trans is a mental illness and *that's why it's okay and not creepy*!" phase)

this is my only exposure to Jordan Peterson from back when i was way more conservative -- https://youtu.be/e_V9_j4dVuY (i should watch it again to see how my reactions have changed, but iirc this + a discussion between Blair White and Theryn Meyer really changed my perspective)

ok. to me, this is a reason to support his right to speak his position, but it's not an argument to support the position, I guess.

to me, it's better to say *suppose for some people it deserves to be treated as* a mental illness with conditions and a treatment. there's a split here should you not then also provide this for people that *want it* but don't show the form of dysphoria considered valid.

part of his frustration is that he's trying to deal with an incoherent set of positions. but it's not a unified view or ideology of course. it's kind of like asking "what does anonymous want." it's not going to be very coherent!

my frustration is: why are people so insistent on imposing intelligible categories on people and everything when increasingly we don't even understand ourselves. I do think that the logical conclusions that Jorden Peterson points out could be hilarious.
