generally, I would say yes, but there are numerous problems with the mask shortage. people are taking them off, a lot, they are reusing them which could cause other diseases, when they take them off and put them on they could infect themselves, usage is inconsistent...

What I do not have a good understanding of is the distribution of typical aerosol particle sizes to understand if the aerosol cloud that you're imagining vs more of a spray is the right model for the multi-phase fluid mechanics. I thought it was more aerosol, but it's disputed

Sure, I've read both ways, but, it can be tested for up to 3 hrs in the air. That's a big deal. My understanding is that this is somewhere between actual aerosolized particles and spray dynamics. Face mask have been the most effective means of prev if worn by both parties.

Adding a face shield over a mask isn't a terrible idea (and would protect eyes), but a face shield alone isn't sufficient. I would guess that most problems are people not wearing masks. There's a lot of that going around.
