Most people just own vangaurd or similar and DCA into total market funds. The day trading stuff is a sideshow.

See, again, I think that's mistaken. As @LAForeverHall would say, narrative matters most. If it drives trading on particular stocks, particularly those who have gone bankrupts, that has profound effects. If you round out retail trading, you're missing a huge amount of signal.

fair. agree it is a signal. not market moving in general but clearly some stocks more appealing to retail investors in general.

Ignoring retail, permabears and filtering out most of the noise is how I outperform by a lot. Going with or even against the herd always gives me garbage returns. But hey if you make % gains that's all that matters, more power to how you can do it the only rule is don't lose $.
