Autopsies of African Americans who died of #COVID19 in New Orleans reveal hemorrhaging -- the O2-absorbing alveolar trees utterly destroyed, and lungs filled with blood and clots. It's as if they drowned in their own blood. NO, this is not "like the #flu".

What is perplexing is why do some go unscathed ( asymptomatic)? What protects their system?

I heard a virologist talk about there being so many different strains, because it mutates so fast, and that some strains are more fatal than others

Why are the most lethal strains found in AA communities? Or do I have it wrong in that the comorbidities play a bigger role?

comorbidities, lower quality health care, lower quality nutrition from lack of access to food (and the like), more exposure due to "manual jobs" being both less paid and more exposed to people *typically*

Thanks! Does Melanin factor in as something that helps or hinders?

indirectly, possibly, through vitamin d deficiency in northern latitudes. it could be very bad in michigan and chicago and the midwest and the north east and the north west, but really anywhere, anyone, can be really hit badly. it just takes a while to get severe. some no problem

also it has problems with the blood. some african americans are more likely to have "sickle cell" platelets which happens to conference some malaria resistance, but maybe this causes issues with the clotting. or there could be other factors.(random ass hypothesis cc @nanogenomic)

Thank you so much!
I'm AA and from Detroit but live in DC. This virus has ravaged black, brown & native American communities & it's really sad. I really appreciate you sharing knowledge. Peace and blessings!0 replies 0 retweets 1 likeThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
