Roman pre-Christian religion(s) sounded pretty chill, just gotta give some offerings to the gods, a few rituals now and then. and then they are happy. everything gets a bit uncomfortably psychological when whether or not you *believe* in the gods starts to effect your afterlife

& i'm sure it was ultimately adaptive by introducing an element of randomness that made their strategy less predictable, but yeah idt they would have been able to think of that if they didn't believe
