Yes, but then is that really a tradeoff? You're giving up temporary happiness for a deeper kind of satisfaction that comes later. Maybe we need different words for those things!

7 years of solitude is a tradeoff I'm willing to bear. 8 may be the tipping point 9 may be too much.

The faith matters much. TBF I wouldn't be in this frame of mind were it not for the pandemic, but we are at war for the future and solitude is the price “I do not think you can name many great inventions that have been made by married men” ― Nikola Teslahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5Watai4qPM&t=2408s …

I should be clear, at the ranges we're talking about, I think that the IQ test really misses a *lot* and isn't a great instrument. SMPY did a study that included spatial ability and it added greatly to their understanding of where gifted kids excelled. https://www.gwern.net/docs/iq/smpy/2013-kell-3.pdf …

Undoubtedly there are many other abilities, social, strategic, intuitive, artistic, musical, physical, that matter greatly. And each of these abilities can be trained including those tested for, the SAT started like IQ but can be "hacked" by 100s of points. Or is this learning!

Furthermore, if my IQ were already lower by 30 points, I might feel I was off the hook, might as well take the other 30 points, be somewhere in the vicinity of normal, and enjoy a society that's more or less made for me. OTOH during a crisis every brain counts.

I've made the point that there are a lot of high IQ people getting things in this crisis incredibly wrong. To me, this is an indication that IQ is the wrong metric -- originally about the Intelligence Quotient, dividing mental age by physical age, this measure is unimportant!

What you really want to know is your survival quotient, which fraction of me will survive (in an ensemble of universes) or even more specifically will quotient -- how much of your will will find power and grow into expression in the universe.

Could your family, your students, your companies, could be ideas, would be art, could be a program, could be saving something important. Ultimately, meaning is where you make it -- if you can succeed in making meaning on this rock, in a vast, cold universe, that's intelligence.
