Educated people on the left often appreciate Marx. However, you are correct that more ignorant individuals that are not informed enough to distinguish between Marxism and Marxist-Leninism do not. Kinda like some are ignorant enough to think that America is still Capitalist...

Marx wrote a nice book about how capitalist economies function - how prices form, how profit is regulated, etc. - no one cares about Marx because of whatever you think communist or socialist ideology is. You should read people that you insist on having strong opinions on.

His thoughts also lead to Public Schools, Social Security, Medicare, Free Trade Agreements and the Equality of all People. His other books are not overshadowed by the actions of Lenin who disregarded them; rather, they have been proverbially burned by American propaganda.

He was also "not responsible for Lenin." Marx teaches that a socialist state may only be founded in a post-Capitalist society, and Lenin attempted to force Communism on a pre-Capitalist society through violence against the peasantry. Marx does, however, advocate for equality.
