Twitter is a $23B tech company going full remote. Wordpress and Gitlab and others have been pioneers. But now the dam breaks. Tech will decentralize out of the SF Bay Area.https://twitter.com/jess/status/1260244693062807553 …

Have been talking about this forever. SF became steadily more terrible over the last ten years, but tech had sunk cost. Now that’s done. Offices aren’t being used. And rounds can now be raised online. So with those two done, tech is on its way out. https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1141222806480285697?s=21 …https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1141222806480285697 …

Balaji SrinivasanVerified account @balajisThe rise of SF as a tech capital is really only 10 years old. Here's@paulg from 2008, writing as it happened: http://www.paulgraham.com/cities.html SF is on top now, but its quick rise could be followed by a gradual (or rapid?) decentralization. Price is a signal, and it's saying "get out". pic.twitter.com/ktckKX7hQu8 replies 61 retweets 368 likesShow this thread -
First, remote work means you can work from home. Then, remote work means you can work from anywhere. And then, remote work means you can hire from anywhere.

For years this was balance of forces for many - SF sucks & I want to leave - But my office & industry are in SF Now suddenly one side of that equation has gone to zero. The office isn’t used, the industry is going remote. So SF is just pure repulsion. And people will fly away.
