The outsized role the quirks of location play on kids lives is wild The difference one amazing teacher, school system, community can play is insane. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized how lucky I was to be surrounded throughout by such a supportive community

My elementary science teacher, Tivadar Diveki, ran a monthly math competition where students from across the world submitted their answers via mail (yes I know this dates myself) For many of the participants, this was their main connection to any sort of community around math

And we've seen many of these pockets pop up. Growing up I was always impressed by the San Diego Match Circle The logistical friction it must have taken to form that community and keep it cohesive must have been incredibly difficult Richard Rusczyk's work on Art of Problem Solvi

and the vast majority of interests, there isn't a robust community, curriculum, and support infrastructure. It still amazes me how much can be learned from Youtube, Twitter, and many more on all subjects. And is a sign of how much more can be done today

So I'm very excited for Primer. Ultimately I think a key measure of progress, is how much easier and better homeschooling is for the next family. Rather than recreating the wheel in isolation, it should feel like joining a community and collectively building it together
