I think we’re excessively surprised as to what happens if you e.g. read literally every book in the library on WWII. Intuitively, we know what is likely to happen. I totally support this, but do you think there are any downsides? It may put additional emphasis to start a track earlier in life, and those who don't may never catch up. But fwiw I still think it's a net gain

I think the discourse of “catching up” assumes some sort of oppositional relationship where competence is value destroying for someone, and my values system does not weight that view of the world highly. My life was not disimproved when many peers got better at sports/dating/etc
