well, it depends on the form of surveillance. if it's really transparent, like in your toothbrush or something... (and the data was *yours*)
Also the lethality is much lower, so not really a point. After the initial wave or 2 of COVID, the lethality may go down and there might not be a point here either.
it's extremely path dependent, isn't it? the virus is highly contagious during presymptomatic periods this means that lethality <=> contagiousness isn't near as much in opposition, evolutionarily, as normal. it is stable enough to keep these properties, but still >10000 strains
