Upon reflection, I realise the significance of your mentioning you are trans, and feel we were talking at cross purposes. As someone who identifies as a 'freak' (subsequent to others identifying me as one) I was caught in my own version of the word, which while used derisively,

was not used with the vitriol and venom you may have experienced with it. The usage that was applied to me, though hurtful and scarring, still left the word reclaimable, and I am driven by my past to do so. Perhaps for you it can not be so. I wish I had seen this sooner.
