Something someone said a few weeks ago still stays in my mind. She said in her experience, most of the people others see as "fake" are being completely authentic and just value different things than you do, i.e. genuinely placing great meaning in money or material possessions.

1/4 Having had some minutes to reflect: the sentiment that we do not know the minds and value systems of others, and that everyone should be given as much leeway as possible: this is something with which I strongly agree, and I don't want to leave any impression otherwise.

2/4 What undergirded my response is that there is a difference between A) "we should not presume to know who is inauthentic" and B) "nobody is inauthentic". One is a statement about epistemology, the other about reality.
