I'm sorry, but this allegation about the R0 number was false. The allegation that he is "a nutritionist" is false. These are false, and they have not been corrected or their falsehood even acknowledged by people who are so ostensibly obsessed with accuracy & quality communication

"Nutrition scientist"--would that appease you? And the R0 was not correct at the time of publication and again, not only about the number but the nonsensical "never seen an actual virality coefficient outside of Twitter in my entire career" and terrifying people.

Which has led to a lot of misrepresentation of his expertise, which is the exact problem under discussion. I asked him to acknowledge his lack of expertise in infect disease in the twitter thread he was snitch-tagged into of mine, & he refused to do so.

I think we've reached the point where we're going in circles. I follow/RT/learn from a lot of ppl on here re: COVID19 who are in different disciplines. Some adjacent, some not. Eric is one of them, & he's more adjacent that many. I just am not seeing that he's as unqualified...

Maybe because you do not understand the nuances of the field? Many of those calling him out have more media appearances already than we can possibly fill--I've turned down/passed on a dozen this week alone. /1

/2 & that is b/c, even though I know the field, *I don't believe I was qualified.* They really needed someone w/ more expertise in virology, or modeling, or ethics, or global health, etc. When we take on these interviews where we don't have depth, we risk misinforming the public.

/3 and yeah, I will get on my soapbox about that because that is important to me at any point, but *especially* during an emerging crisis as I mentioned before. There are plenty of experts for people to speak to who can get it right.
