I thought I noticed that some of what you were quoted on, Ian, was rendered a little out of date by your 2 big findings from last night, the culturing viruses from asymptomatic patients, I thought, changed the frame

Iguess you mean this? "While there is no good evidence to support asymptomatic transmission, we know that infectious viruses can be found without symptoms, for other viruses. It probably isn’t a major transmission route, though" -very much stand by that.

let's sharpen "major." hypothesis: alt. infection routes, the transmission during subsymptomatic conditions, through stool, through people who appear to have recovered, through people with mild illness may be the *majority* of cases that *evade our containment* thoughts?

I do agree it is not driving the vast majority of infections in a place like Wuhan, though, for sure!

but basically, this is how even extreme efforts to contain are letting cases slip through, in many ways. it's why we have to move to a primarily passive defense to have a hope of eradication, or slowing it down enough to respond with the big hammers of science imho

Danni. I don’t think we can be passive. I trust the uk’s NHS but even it would be stressed. Other nations are less well prepared. We need to be proactive despite uncertainties over population/case and virus data.

passive meaning aggressively social distancing, work from home, homeschool, avoid travel, avoid public /large gatherings, fastidious hand washing
