Failure of: -public health communications basically saying "everything is fine, don't worry about it, we're on it" vs getting ppl to prepare -media not asking tough questions about topics like strict clinical criteria, decentralized diagnostics, etc -media focusing other topics
And unfortunately so far every day has gotten worse. Systems thinking makes it very obvious how this is shaping up. Hopefully luck intervenes and swings it the other way...
I was thinking earlier it feels like the “calm before the storm”. So many around me have been lulled into a state of complacency. Meanwhile the actual scientists tracking, even the CDC today basically said it’s a matter of time before it is here and we’ve only just delayed it.
Why are they calculating mortality rate this way with so many cases are pending? There’s more concrete numbers to use at this point (recovered & dead), so why aren’t they using it? It seems flawed, esp when mortality rate winds up higher once the dust settles (MERS, SARS, etc.).
