If you really want to freak yourself out, consider the total number of ICU beds in the US (~100K), & their typical occupancy rate (66%), & think about the numbers for percent of infections requiring ICU (15% per WHO, 23% per Wuhan paper).

My uncle, a pharmacist at a hospital in Beaumont, Texas, says that of 300 beds they have only 30 (IIRC) in the ICU and might only run 5 respirators, and that they can last only ~3 days before critical shortages. Medicine & equip on Chinese cargoships headed for US turned around

During the hurricane there there was no way in or out via land because of the extreme flooding, so the army had to fly in blackhawks to deliver supplies.
There’s no way they could support that for a significant fraction of the hospitals in the US / Canada
