An underrated and often overlooked quality we *always* look for when hiring: Scrappiness. Does the person naturally keep forward momentum going when small obstacles get in their way? Do they quickly figure out best practices? Do they default to yes?

I used to 'test' for this with little things in the interview process - I'd tell them to follow up with me if they want to move forward, say I'd send a link then not etc. Seeing who's scrappy w/ attention to detail and who just waits to let you lead is really eye opening.

totally! individual initiative and persistence and willingness to follow up was really key to keeping organizational momentum on anything even simple tests, like you suggest, are pretty good! simple 'persistence' tests might be hackable, but even hacking them shows initiative!
