The most important aspect of Twitter's new features is not who can respond to which tweets It's how the feed will prioritize these different types of tweets. Or if they will split into multiple feeds

yes, though part of beauty (and terror in many cases too) of twitter is that people are structurally wrong about how open they would want a comment to be. Since they misweight, leads to unexpected upside for default to be public (and now downside too)

so I wonder if letting posters set the type it is, will actually be optimal. That said if can't mitigate downside, may be needed
