What I would love to see more of (@patrickc does a good job of this) is making explicit the books you’ve read as references in the discussion.
Really critical for these broad discussions to have broad shared background.

I'm not opposed to @tylercowen and @patrickc 's idea of "Progress Studies", but it should start by studying whether those who achieved great progress historically did so by studying (or implementing others' study of) prior progress. If the answer is no, it should then stop.
