I think there‘s an opportunity for “The Pacific” which would be an West Coast culture, tech, and politics magazine to rival the Atlantic. The business model must be s*$t. I would guess Condé Nast runs a portfolio theory w/ its properties, losing money on the New Yorker and such, but making it up on Vogue & Vanity Fair. Chris Hughes' Aztec sacrifice of the New Republic is a great example of the failing biz model

an enormous amount is lost in friction; do you want to interrupt your morning and coffee to subscribe to get your nth article? no, you’ll read something else. if it were super easy to purchase i would think the price could be way lower. like audible credits you assign to writers
