I think there‘s an opportunity for “The Pacific” which would be an West Coast culture, tech, and politics magazine to rival the Atlantic. The business model must be s*$t. I would guess Condé Nast runs a portfolio theory w/ its properties, losing money on the New Yorker and such, but making it up on Vogue & Vanity Fair. Chris Hughes' Aztec sacrifice of the New Republic is a great example of the failing biz model

we are short on coherently expressed politics, expressed for the present era. foundations feel outdated capitalism by our vast scale vs world buffers communism by clumsy damaging control at small scales scales conflict like gravity and quantum mech. not solved, even in theory
