I've been trying to make an effort to stay in touch with people, check in on friends and family. But one thing I really miss is running into a casual acquaintance by chance. Not your friend per se, but maybe a mutual friend that you feel fondly towards and see at parties.

The problem is that you can't ever *think* to check in with these people. As soon as you do, you've moved them from Category B to your Category A. I want to have a lovely 20 minute conversation with the person I haven't thought about in a while but am pleasantly surprised to see.

I know social media is a cheap substitute for real world interaction, but it's for this exact reason that I really wish Instagram would allow you to turn off the algorithm and get a chronological feed.

The algorithm serves you updates from the people you interact with regularly, your category A. I understand why—normally, this feels like higher-value interaction. But I follow many people outside of my close friends, and right now, I'd *love* to see some dumb pic of their salad.

A chronological feed is the best solution I can think of to generate that pleasant surprise. I've already done a lot of social eliminating just by who I've chosen to follow. Just *gimme the option* to run into someone I haven't thought about in months. In summary: I miss people.
