was working on a shader for an unrelated thing and realized that it's actually perfect for Zhestkov-style animations

here's the material, it's actually super simple to set this sort of thing up: vert instancing spheres to a mesh with fabric physics to make it swoosh around randomly, and then the 'object -> location' node on a 4D texture takes care of quantizing each ball to be its own valuepic.twitter.com/wQD9oI640u

if you don't use the object-specific node that's fine, you'll just get your texture applied across world space (here: camera space) such that the borders are halfway across objects and sort of gradient-y maybe that's what you're going for; lots of optionspic.twitter.com/Q0rXhNdhv4

My little brother
@MichaelZarick started to learn Blender last week. This sort of thread seems super useful (simple but powerful things that can be shown off in a screenshot)1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

yeah! frankly it's unfair how good and how easy modern blender is compared to when I started, haha, so I hope it's something more people stick through learning. my goal is to show more and talk less, so this could be more frequent for my timeline generally going forward

That’d be awesome. I’ve wanted to do some dabbling with it too and maybe that would be the thing that gets me over the edge.
