Haha no not at all, I was being serious! See, if your customer needs a car, they need a car. A skateboard doesn't help at all... Doesn't help you learn how to build a car, doesn't give your customers the value they need. It's just stupid. So here's what you do instead...
1. You drive them around in your own car to learn what they need 2. You rent/buy the functionality (ie get them a taxi or a rental) 3. (maybe) you make a little add-on or something that improves car value to your customers 4. (probably never) you build the car yourself
I’ve always believed the point of the original image is: some people need a skateboard and you can reasonably offer a skateboard. Over time you can grow that into something more useful that more people need (and some early customers will grow with you, some won’t). Repeat.
