I miss Housecraft (kind of).https://twitter.com/AsherVo/status/910259201011736576 …
We found a company to buy it last fall. It was only for a few grand & a small retained percentage (nowhere near what I'd pitched some acquirers). Was happy to get it off our plate, but bummed to see it all but die due to neglect (ours & theirs). Ah, the life of software.

I sent ~a hundred emails and had dozens of calls with potential acquirers. But the details never worked out. Sometimes it wasn't a fit, sometimes it was the number, others wanted to just hire us (blagh), etc. It was an informative process though.

The most interesting was Qurate, QVC/HSN's parent company. We were planning to all fly to the same city with their bizdev team to work details out. The idea was to possible create a new shopping app using Housecraft as the base, and make some AR apps for brands they owned.

But then ultimately they got distracted with a larger deal closing. The biz lead on the deal went on maternity leave early and the technical lead left for a startup. A few months later when she was back everybody had moved on. What a ride of emotions for 2 years.

Roleplaying business-person can be fun, but ultimately it leaves me dissatisfied and not in control of the outcome. Building products & assets that grow in value over time is the best way to spend energy IMO. It's too easy to be distracted by non-compounding activities.

Is it the destiny of all software to die now?
-
It feels like it. Especially any software in the App Store (unfortunate but true). Dealing this week with a recent client's app which is now "dead" because Apple deprecated an API we're not even using but a tool we use includes in the build. So hopefully they pay to update it.
